Alternative Summer Camp Option! Camp Rockefeller in Arkansas.

Posted on Apr 22 2021 - 9:25pm

Troop 265 has normally offered an alternate Summer Camp option to H. Roe Bartle.  For the past 2 years, we did not have an alternate and this Summer we do!

Troop 265 has an opportunity for a limited number of scouts (8) to attend summer camp at Camp Rockefeller, affectionately known as "The Rock" in Damascus, AR.

Summer camp at The Rock offers all scouts the opportunity to earn merit badges (49+ offered) and to explore STEM topics. Scouts 13 and older can complete COPE Training and scouts over 14 can participate in Xtreme Waterfront challenges. Scouts age 15 and above have access to a wide range of aquatics activities including: Paddle Craft, Swim/Water Safety, BSA Lifeguard training, Stand up Paddleboard, and Snorkeling.

For an overview of all that The Rock has to offer, visit: https://www.quapawbsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Camp-Rockefeller-Leaders-Guide.pdf

We will depart from Flower Mound at 6am on Sunday, June 13th and return on Saturday, June 19th.

Cost Information:

Youth: Early Bird (Youth only): $275 total if: $100 paid by April 1 and remaining $175 paid by May 3

Adult: Part-time adult leaders may register for a fee of $25/night. All adults who stay overnight must register as either full-time or part-time adults.

Accepting donations of gently-used uniform pieces

Posted on Apr 22 2021 - 9:25pm
Has your scout hit a growth-spurt and outgrown pieces of his uniform? Are there extra Class B t-shirts laying around your house? Spring is a great time for cleaning, it’s also when we have new scouts bridging to the Troop who are in need of uniform pieces. Please consider donating your scout’s outgrown, gently-used and clean uniform pieces to the Troop’s uniform cabinet in the HUT. And if your scout is in need of a scout shirt, scout pants, or a Class B t-shirt, you may want to check out the donation closet before you head to the Scout Shop! For help with donating or retrieving uniform items, contact Casey Johnston at tcz_johnston@yahoo.com

UPDATED Advancement Requirement Modifications

Posted on Apr 22 2021 - 9:25pm

In response to Covid-related restrictions, some rank advancement requirements were temporarily modified through September 1st.  These modifications have been updated, and details can be found at www.scouting.org/coronavirus/covid-19-faq/.  Here are some highlights, including several adaptations for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks:

  • Video conferencing can be used to meet some merit badge and rank requirements, as long as the scout can learn the requisite skills and knowledge using an online format.  All existing youth protection policies and digital safety guidelines must be followed.
  • Virtual camping (i.e., backyard or solo camping) may satisfy some requirements if it is a direct result of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and is part of a BSA unit-organized unit camping event (i.e., multiple members of the unit are involved and camping simultaneously at remote locations).  All existing youth protection policies and digital safety guidelines must be followed.
  • Swimming requirements for Second Class and First Class ranks have been modified as follows:
    • Second Class requirement 5b and First Class requirement 6a can be deferred through Life rank, but not Eagle.
    • Second Class requirement 5c and First Class requirement 6e can be performed on dry land
  • Camping merit badge requirement 9b is temporarily suspended and scouts can earn this badge without completing requirement 9b.
