Shoe Donations

Posted on Oct 22 2020 - 7:23pm
Have you cleaned out your closet lately? You may not realize it but those shoes you keep saying you're going to wear but never do have value!  Pack 163 is collecting gently worn, used and new shoes to raise money and needs your help! We're looking for all types of shoes: sneakers, casual shoes, dress shoes, ANY type of shoes.  We'll be paid per pound for the shoes by Funds2Orgs. The shoes go to developing nations and micro-entrepreneurs so they can help themselves out of poverty!  Please make sure the shoes are still wearable with no holes.
How can you help?  Please bring your shoes to the next troop meeting or any meeting from now until the end of November and give to Joshua Kohn. Questions?  Contact Gina Kohn 972-880-3778 or gmkohn@aol.com.  See the attached flyer for more info.

UPDATED Advancement Requirement Modifications

Posted on Oct 22 2020 - 7:17pm

In response to Covid-related restrictions, some rank advancement requirements were temporarily modified through September 1st.  These modifications have been updated, and details can be found at www.scouting.org/coronavirus/covid-19-faq/.  Here are some highlights, including several adaptations for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks:

  • Video conferencing can be used to meet some merit badge and rank requirements, as long as the scout can learn the requisite skills and knowledge using an online format.  All existing youth protection policies and digital safety guidelines must be followed.
  • Virtual camping (i.e., backyard or solo camping) may satisfy some requirements if it is a direct result of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and is part of a BSA unit-organized unit camping event (i.e., multiple members of the unit are involved and camping simultaneously at remote locations).  All existing youth protection policies and digital safety guidelines must be followed.
  • Swimming requirements for Second Class and First Class ranks have been modified as follows:
    • Second Class requirement 5b and First Class requirement 6a can be deferred through Life rank, but not Eagle.
    • Second Class requirement 5c and First Class requirement 6e can be performed on dry land
  • Camping merit badge requirement 9b is temporarily suspended and scouts can earn this badge without completing requirement 9b.
